The Keitum neighbourhood of Munkmarsch has a particularly maritime character, with the small private marina and Munkmarsch Bay. Before the Hindenburgdamm was opened in 1927, Munkmarsch harbour was the destination for steamships bringing holiday guests to the island, mainly from the Danish port of Hoyer.
Munkmarsch is maritime. If you are a sailor or a surfer, or if you are just looking for simple maritime flair, this is the place for you. The small, and only private marina on Munkmarsch Bay invites you to linger and enjoy. Shaped by the tides, man and nature have found their natural rhythm here. While you enjoy a glass of sparkling wine in your holiday home, the boats in the harbour bob about impatiently waiting for high tide so that they can put out to sea once more.
If you are just a wind surfing beginner, then here you will find the ideal training waters, before you try out the famous wind surfing waters on the west side of the island. Munkmarsch is the ideal starting point for a beautiful ramble along the watt to Keitum and Kampen. Otherwise Munkmarsch is very tranquil. Unless of course you happen to be there for the Fish Festival or one of the other small celebrations down by the harbour. It really is the place to meet.
